Award Categories

Recipients will be identified in the following three distinct spheres among two age groups, i.e. 1. Senior Alumni (Age: above 40 years) and 2. Young Alumni (Age: less than or equal to 40 years)

Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence (DAAPE),
Distinguished Alumnus Award for Public Service (DAAPS), and
Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to the NIT Warangal (DAASN)

In all, there will be six types of awards as indicated below:

Category A: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence (DAAPE) in

Academics / Research, or
Industry / Corporate, or
Entrepreneurship

Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence (DAAPE) for Senior Alumni (Age: above 40 years)
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence (DYAAPE) for Young Alumni (Age: less than or equal to 40 years)

Category B: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Public Service (DAAPS) in

Public Administration, or
Social and Community Service, or
Excellence in Arts

Distinguished Alumnus Award for Public Service (DAAPS) for Senior Alumni (Age: above 40 years)
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award for Public Service (DYAAPS) for Young Alumni (Age: less than or equal to 40 years)

Category C: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to the NIT Warangal (DAASN)

Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to the NIT Warangal (DAASN) for Senior Alumni (Age: above 40 years)
Distinguished Young Alumnus Award for Service to the NIT Warangal (DYAASN) for Young Alumni (Age: less than or equal to 40 years)

Details of these awards are provided below:

Category A: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence

The Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Excellence recognizes an alumnus/alumna whose accomplishments and contributions have had the broadest impact and positive effect on mankind. Alumni should have exceptional accomplishment in his chosen professional field. Recipients of this award are celebrated for going beyond their successful vocation and bringing benefit to the universal community and for scientific and technological advancement. This Award is intended to honour alumni whose accomplishments and contributions are of national and/or international significance, and/or have had a seminal or transformative impact on their field of endeavour.

Category B: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Public Service

The Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service is presented annually to an alumnus/alumna with superior service in the public sector or a sustained pattern of voluntary service to the community, or service to the arts, that has positively represented the Institute and fellow citizens. He/she should have demonstrated either outstanding success in a career in the public service or extraordinary contributions in the charitable, non-profit, or civic arena. Such achievement may include:

Consistent long-term achievement in a career in the public service
Use of influence and effectiveness in the business world to support a pursuit in public service
Consistent long-term achievement in community and social service benefitting society at large beyond the call of their normal duty and responsibilities

Public Service can include, but not limited to public administration, leadership, membership or support of civic organizations, charitable organizations, religious organizations, or other community related volunteer or financial support.

Category C: Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to NIT Warangal

The Distinguished Alumnus Award for Service to NIT Warangal is presented annually to an alumnus/alumna of NIT Warangal based upon a significant pattern of volunteer service to the NITW that has positively represented the NIT Warangal and its mission. Recipients have been actively engaged in voluntary work on behalf of NIT Warangal. He should have carried out exceptional service in support of the advancement and continued excellence of NIT Warangal and the NIT Warangal Alumni Association. Long-term loyalty and dedication are key ingredients of these very special volunteers.

Service to the Institute can include, but not limited to involvement with Institute or department committees, Alumni Association support, participation and membership, financial contributions, participation in Institute programs, teaching at the Institute, other voluntary membership, leadership or service.

Normally an alumnus/alumna who has received the Professional Excellence Award / Public Service Award shall not be considered for Service to the NIT Warangal Award within a period of 5 years.

Distinguished Alumnus Award Details

Eligibility

All the former students, who have been enrolled in a regular course of study at RECW / NITW, are eligible for these awards.

Former students may be nominated posthumously.

Age of the alumni nominated for the awards will be counted w.r.t. 1st January 2023.

The following alumni are not eligible to be nominated for a Distinguished Alumni Awards:

Former students employed by the NITW during their term of employment.
Office bearers of the NITW Alumni Association, NITWAA chapters, NITWAA Committees and NITW Foundation during their term of service.
Alumni who currently hold or have held political office (at local, state or national level) within three years of the date of the close of nominations
Members of the Selection Committee

Members of the Alumni Award selection committee may not submit nominations, nor they may act as referee to a nomination.

Self-Nomination is not Accepted

Method of Nomination

Nominations may be made for an Alumnus Award by any of the following individuals or groups:

Any member / office bearer of the NITWAA or its chapters
Any member of the administration, faculty or staff of NIT Warangal
Any former student of NIT Warangal
Any citizen/employee of an organisation who has adequate knowledge/acquaintance of our alumni

Nominations will be accepted using the following guidelines:

Nomination Form in the prescribed form with all the credentials of the nominee. It should include details and specific examples that will help the committee understand the significance of nominee’s accomplishments in terms of: a) Impact, b) Influence, c) Other awards and accolades and d) How this person’s efforts bring distinction to the NIT Warangal.

In addition to the above Nomination Form, nominators are encouraged to provide supporting items that further distinguish the nominee. Such items include, but are not limited to:

Letter of nomination written by the nominator (mandatory)
Two letters of support from non-family members that specifically address the criteria (mandatory)
Current biography or curriculum vitae of the nominee (mandatory)
Newspaper and magazine articles / profiles / Personal stories
Professional honours, Awards or certificates of achievement / commendations
Membership / leadership in professional organizations
Publications, or noteworthy special work
Other items of interest

In case of Service to the Institute, record of contributions to NIT Warangal Community, in one or more of the following, is to be submitted:

Contributions to fund-raising for NIT Warangal
Teaching courses at NIT Warangal as Adjunct Faculty/Visiting Faculty/Professor of Practice
Joint research collaboration with the faculty of the Institute
Mentoring of students / faculty in innovation and entrepreneurial ventures
Any other service to the NIT Warangal Community

One nomination per individual will be considered.

The name of the nominator will not be disclosed.

Method of Award Recipient Selection

The NITW will use the following guidelines for the Award Recipient Selection:

The DAA Selection Committee, as approved by the BOG, NITW, consists of the following members.

Director - Chairman
Nominee of BOG - Member
An Eminent Scientist - Member
An Eminent Industrialist - Member
An Eminent Academician / Senior Faculty Member - Member
President, NITWAA - Member
Dean (IRAA) - Convener

The Alumni Awards Selection Committee is asked to make every effort to select recipients of the highest calibre, giving equal consideration to all who have achieved excellence in their respective fields.

The Alumni Awards selection committee reserves the right to grant an award for which the candidate has not been specifically nominated.

The office of Dean (IRAA) will collect nominations which will be reviewed, validated and short listed by a Screening Committee (SC) chaired by the Dean (IRAA) to be constituted with the approval of the Director.

The Dean (IRAA) will place the short-listed nominations before the DAA Selection committee.

Maximum of 15 recipients may be selected annually for Distinguished Alumnus Awards. The BOG must approve additional recipients.

The proposers and nominees may please note that the DAA Awards are bestowed on Alumni with a high degree of professionalism and ethics. The conduct and behaviour of such awardees should bring respect and laurels to the institute and should never cause disrepute to the institution. In view of the above DAA award winners may please note that the Institute has the right to rescind and withdraw such award(s) if at any future point of time it is brought to the notice of the institute that the character and conduct of any such awardee is not conducive nor in tune with general norms of propriety and honesty in society.

NIT Warangal introduced the Distinguished Alumnus Award program to honour outstanding former students and to celebrate their achievements. The purpose of the Distinguished Alumnus Award is to recognize the institute’s alumni, who have made significant contributions to the society.
