Prof. T. Srinivasa Rao is one of the senior Professors of the NIT-Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu with 29 years of experience in teaching, research and administration. He obtained his B.Tech. (Metallurgical Engineering) from Regional Engineering College, Warangal (presently NIT Warangal), M.Tech., from IIT Kharagpur and Ph.D. from Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli (presently NIT Tiruchirappalli) in 1982, 1984 and 1992 respectively. He began his career at Praga Tools Limited, Secunderabad, as a Management Trainee. Later, he joined REC, Tiruchirappalli as a Lecturer in the year 1986. Subsequently, he was an Assistant Professor, Professor and Head of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at NIT, Tiruchirappalli. He took the charge as Director of NIT Warangal on 27th May, 2011.
He is a recipient of BOYSCAST fellowship from Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and carried out Post Doctoral Research work in the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He also served as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTU, Singapore. He is also recipient of the Best Teacher Award from NIT, Tiruchirappalli for the year 2008-2009. He has guided 5 Ph.Ds. and 45 M.Tech. projects in the area of Powder Metallurgy and Nanotechnology. He has published/presented more than 80 research papers in the peer reviewed journals/conferences. He has been actively involved in research work and brought around Rs.800 lakhs through various sponsored research projects among which a major grant from DST sponsored Nano Mission Project worth Rs.572 lakhs. He has organized number of conferences, symposiums and workshops in the area of Powder Metallurgy and Nanotechnology. He is a life member of various professional bodies, like, ISTE, PMAI,IE, IIM, MRSI, etc. He has visited countries like USA, France, South Korea, Dubai, Singapore, etc. on various research activities.
As Director, NIT Warangal, he has created research environment in the institute by encouraging faculty to apply for sponsored research projects, providing sufficient funds for procuring state of art research equipment, sponsoring faculty to various countries to get exposure to state of art research facilities, increasing Ph.D. fellowships, etc. He helped NIT Warangal to be a partner with few higher technical institutes of Europe in two Indo-Europe Erasmus mundus Programmes, namely, HERITAGE and EUPHRATES. Under these schemes, good number of NITW students and faculty went to European Institutes. He is encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship activities. Based on his efforts with reference to Engineering Projects in Community Services (EPICS), the EPICS programme Headquartered at Purdue University recognized the NIT Warangal as an Official Member of the EPICS University Consortium. He is also instrumental in introducing good practices in the institute for the benefit of all stake holders.
